From June 1 to 2, 2021, the Centre organized thesis defense for twenty (20) 2019 participants from three (3) directions: RS&GIS (Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System), Micro-Satellite Technology and SC&GNSS (Satellite Communications and Global Navigation Satellite Systems).

Affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, the defense was conducted in a combination of online and offline. Participants on campus and in Beijing participated in the offline defense, while other participants attended online through the Tencent Meeting.

During the defense, the network communicated well, and the participants first systematically elaborated the thesis research from the background, objectives, content, methods and conclusions. After that, the experts of the Defense Committee made detailed comments and targeted questions to the participants from the aspects of research content, logical structure, research methods and writing standards, and put forward opinions and suggestions on related issues. The Defense Committee made a collective evaluation on the Master’s theses of the participants, and unanimously agreed that the twenty (20) participants were able to combine the actual situation of their countries and make use of the knowledge they had learned to carry out some research on the subjects they studied, which reached the training requirements and objectives of Programme on Space Technology Applications, and suggested to award Master Degree of Engineering. Finally, the Committee announced the defense results: all the twenty (20) participants passed the defense. The participants were encouraged to continue their study and innovation in their future research, so as to contribute to the development of space technology in their home countries.

The participants enrolled in 2019 were mainly recommended by space-related institutions and government departments of APSCO Member States and the Centre. The twenty (20) participants who passed the defense were from Algeria, Bangladesh, Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, and Togo. They are young professional and technical backbone and government reserve talents in the field of space technology in their respective countries.
