The Visit and Field Investigation to Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) and Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in Asia and the Pacific (CSSTEAP)

From January 4th to 5th in 2016, Jiang Hui and Wang Fang, Directors of China National Space Administration, Weng Jingnong, Dean of International School of Beihang University and executive director of Regional Center for Space Science and Technology Education in Asia and the Pacific(China)(affiliated to the United Nations), Gao Guozhu, Law Expert of the Center and associate professor of the Law School of Beihang University as well as the Project Manager of the Center Guo Yuanyuan, paid a visit and carried out a field investigation in Dehradun-based Indian Institute of Remote Sensing(IIRS) and Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in Asia and the Pacific (CSSTEAP). Senthil Kuma and Dr.Sarnam Singh, Chairman of IIRS and Project Manager of CSSTEAP respectively, extended a warm welcome to China’s delegation.


On the morning of January 4th , the two parties had a meeting in the Conference Room of CSSTEAP and exchanged enrollment brochures, newsletters and other publicity materials with each other. They conducted a thorough discussion on education and training cooperation which comes as the fourth issue of the Outline of Sino-India Space Cooperation signed by China National Space Administration and Indian Space Research Organization. The chairman Senthil Kuma and the director Jiang Hui introduced the space activities and projects of India and China in detail respectively. Then Dr.Srivastav from IIRS presented the education training programs. The two parties also positively exchanged views on education training cooperation. In the afternoon, both Dr.Sarnam Singh, Project Manager of CSSTEAP and Weng Jingnong, Executive Director of RCSSTEAP illustrated the general situations and education training activities of two centers. After Chinese delegation visited IIRS and CSSTEAP campus, they looked around student apartments, academies, classrooms, machine room ,labs, remote education system and other facilities.





The principals in different fields from CSSTEAP and representatives from RCSSTEAP both outlined education training projects in various professions on the morning of January 5th. Afterwards, two parties exchanged views in such issues as talent cultivation, faculty building, communication among participants and schooling resources sharing as well as remote education project, thus the preliminary agreement being reached. In the afternoon, Chinese delegation had a video conference with the headquarter of Indian Space Research Organization and Indian National Center of Remote Sensing and the two parties also confirmed the agreement in detail to draft a conference memorandum.


The CSSTEAP, as the first regional center affiliated to the United Nations, has shaped a set of complete education training system and faculty group, which plays a guiding role in the construction of RCSSTEAP. The visit and exchange has strengthened the mutual understanding and closed the distance between two parties, laying a sound foundation for cooperation in the area of education training.
