Professor Leonardo from Colombia Visits the Regional Centre for Academic Exchange

At the invitation of the Centre, Professor Leonardo Plazas-Nossa specializing in small satellite technology from the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas in Colombia visited the Centre from February 22 to March 9 for a 16-day academic exchange in Beijing and Hangzhou. This visit aimed to deepen academic collaboration in small satellite technology, promote further research advancements, and foster joint innovation in cutting-edge aerospace technology. Professor Leonardo was warmly received by the faculty and students of the Centre. Professor Huang Hai, the head of the small satellite technology division, presented him with academic books on spacecraft research.

Accompanied by Deputy Director of the Centre, Professor Jing Guifei, and Professor Yang Dongkai, head of the satellite navigation division, Professor Leonardo visited STAR.VISION in Hangzhou. He discussed with the company’s researchers, gaining insights into their latest developments in small satellite research and applications.

From March 5 to 6, Professor Leonardo traveled to Beijing, where he visited the aviation and aerospace museum and the teaching laboratories of the School of Astronautics at Beihang University’s Xueyuan Road and Shahe campuses. Under the guidance of Professor Huang Hai and others, he also visited the satellite laboratory of Minospace, where he learned about the company’s recent achievements in the field and exchanged ideas on future research directions.

On March 7, Professor Leonardo delivered a lecture at the Centre of Beihang’s Hangzhou campus on the theme of the “Colombia CUBESAT-UD Project.” In the lecture, he provided a detailed overview of the project’s background, significance, accomplishments, and future plans, sharing his research experiences. The event saw enthusiastic interactions between Professor Leonardo and the attending faculty and students.

During his visit, Professor Leonardo engaged in discussions with experts and professors from the Centre on establishing a framework for collaboration in space technology. Both parties expressed interest in deepening cooperation in areas such as student exchanges, faculty visits, and scientific research.
