From September 16 to 29, 2019, 2019 International Training Workshop on Capacity Improvement of Addressing Climate Change through Space Technology organized by Ministry of Ecology and Environment was held in Beijing. More than ten (10) experts from China National Space Administration, Shenzhou College of China Academy of Space Technology, Aerospace Dongfanghong Company and Beihang University as lecturers were invited to give lectures. It aimed to promote the ability of addressing climate change through space technology in developing countries, especially small island countries.
On the 26th, the participants came to the Centre for study and visit. In the morning, Mr. Weng Jingnong, Executive Director of Centre and Dean of International School, Beihang University, gave a lecture on “Programme on Space Applications and Its Actions by the United Nations”. In the afternoon, Mr. Jin Tian, GNSS Expert of the Centre, an expert in navigation direction of Center and Associate Professor of School of Electronic and Information Engineering, Beihang University gave a detail introduction to “BeiDou Navigation Satellite System and Its Applications”. The participants said that their one-day study in Beihang, namely the “Beihang day” Activity, helped them understand the cutting-edge information of the UN space technology applications. They also gained a more intuitive understanding of China’s BeiDou, broadened their international vision and benefited a lot.

At noon, using the gap between courses, the participants visited the Centre and Beihang campus. At that time, it was the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The participants took photos with Chinese students who took part in the celebration activities on campus, and actively accepted the interview from Beihang Student Press Group, expressing their congratulations to China and appreciating the beautiful campus of Beihang. Mr. Kwame Adu AGYEKUM, a Lecturer of University of Ghana, said, “It is my first time to be here in China, I like it very much. The campus of Beihang University is very beautiful. I hope that my children will have the chance to come here to study!”




A total of twenty-nine (29) participants from fourteen (14) countries (Argentina, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Cameroon, Chile, Ecuador, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Malaysia, Morocco, Namibia, Senegal, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Zambia) participated in it. The participants from various countries are mainly officials in the field of climate change and technicians from scientific research institutions in the field of aerospace.
