Representatives of the Centre Participated in the Sub-Forum on Disaster Prevention, Reduction and Relief of the 2023 BRIDRREM Forum

In recent years, human social and economic activities have been undergoing increasingly extensive and far-reaching impacts of disasters amid global climate change. To improve disaster risk reduction capacity and enhance international cooperation, Ministry of Emergency Management (MEM) of the People’s Republic of China will hold the Second Belt and Road Ministerial Forum for International Cooperation in Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Management (BRIDRREM Forum) in November 2023. As part of BRIDRREM Forum activity, “Strengthening Disaster Risk Management for Sustainable Development” Sub-Forum on Disaster Prevention, Reduction and Relief was held on 11-12 October 2023 in Beijing.

More than twenty (20) people of the Centre, including Mr. Weng Jingnong, Executive Director of the Centre, Ms. Tan Yumin, Professor of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (RS&GIS), and representatives of the participants, were invited to attend the forum. The two-day forum carried out a series of special reports on improving and optimizing the natural disaster prevention and control system, and accelerating the application of high and new technologies in disaster prevention, reduction and relief.

Prof. Tan Yumin made a presentation entitled “Overview of RCSSTEAP” at the Seminar on Satellite Data in Support of Early Warning for All in the topic of “Strengthening International and Regional Cooperation in Multi-hazard Early Warning”, which was received with great interest and inquiries from the participants.

Representatives of the Centre had full exchanges with experts and scholars from the UN agencies, national research institutes, and international organizations, as well as alumni of the Centre, which strengthened the connection between each other and sought opportunities for further expansion of cooperation.
