On October 13, 2023, Mr. Driss El Hadani, Deputy Director General of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), Mr. Lorant Czaran, Executive Director of the Beijing Office of the United Nations Platform for Space-based Information for Disaster Management and Emergency Response (UN-SPIDER), and Mr. Victor Lagutov, Professor of Central European University, visited the Centre. They were warmly welcomed by the entire staff of the Centre Office and representatives of teachers from each professional direction.

They visited the construction and development gallery of the Centre, Micro-satellite Mission Control Center, Remote Sensing & GIS Lab, as well as facilities of the educational environment, such as smart classroom and laboratories, etc., and watched the promotional video of the Centre.


Mr. Weng Jingnong, Executive Director of the Centre, introduced the important achievements of the Centre since its establishment and shared initial plans for the upcoming activities of its 10th anniversary. Mr. Driss El Hadani highly praised the work of the Centre and said that all the six (6) Regional Centres around the world should strengthen cooperation and exchanges. Then he put forward his ideas and suggestions on curriculum design, short-term training, special activities, mutual visits of experts, internship exchanges and so on. Representatives of teachers also had in-depth exchanges with the delegation, which gave them a clearer direction for the future work.


Under the leadership and support of UNOOSA and the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the Centre will continue to build a world-class international space education platform, implement the initiative of United Nations on “Promoting the peaceful use of space technologies for the benefit of all humankind”, make new and greater contributions to the implementation of the United Nations “Programme on Space Applications (PSA)”, and enhance the level of education in space science and technology as well as the capability of space technology applications of the Member States and other developing countries.
