World Science Day for Peace and Development (WSDPD) takes place annually on the 10^th of November. To celebrate this event, the Centre and the Senior Professors Association (SPA) of Beihang University jointly organized a thematic lecture on “Rural Revitalization and Social Development in China” in Room 405 of the International School this year. Mr. Wu Cunyu, Deputy Director of the China Committee for the International Week of Science and Peace (IWOSP), Mr. Zhang Dong, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Committee for the IWOSP, along with Mr. Zheng Yanliang, Executive Vice President of the SPA of Beihang University, Mr. Shen Gongzhang, Vice President of the SPA of Beihang University, Mr. Chen Zhiying, Professor of the SPA of Beihang University, and other participants attended the event. Mrs. Zhang Haiying, Director of the “Rural Revitalization Research Base” of the SPA, was invited to give a special report, which was broadcasted online through Tencent Meeting. The lecture was hosted by Mr. Jin Tian, Deputy Director of Department of Academic Affairs of Beihang University and Expert of the Centre in GNSS.

With the example of her first-hand insights from five years of personal experience in Dashuibo Town, Weihai City, Shandong Province, after her retirement, Professor Zhang Haiying shared her profound understanding of the issues of rural construction and revitalization in China based on her lifetime of research and practical exploration, and interacted with international participants from various countries in the room, which was warmly welcomed and highly praised by them.

Professor Zheng Yanliang, Executive Vice President of the SPA of Beihang University, delivered a speech highlighting the touching story of Professor Zhang Haiying’s dedication to countryside after retirement, and sharing the inspiring achievement of how Professor Zhang devoted her knowledge to the rural revitalization.

Mr. Wu Cunyu, Deputy Director of the China Committee for the IWOSP, made a report, introducing the 35-year development experience of the UN IWOSP and expressing his heartfelt gratitude to Professor Zhang Haiying on behalf of the China Committee for the IWOSP! He pointed out that on the eve of the opening ceremony of the 35^th IWOSP on November 11, it was a successful prelude with far-reaching significance for Beihang University to organize such a lecture.

After the event, Mr. Wu Cunyu, on behalf of the China Committee, awarded the certificate of “Best Event Organization Institution” for the IWOSP activities to the SPA of Beihang University and the Centre. Mr. Zhang Dong presented a commemorative stamp folder of the IWOSP to the organizers and distributed the commemorative envelopes of the 35^th IWOSP to all international participants present.
