From April 27-29, Ms. Aarti Holla-Maini, Director of UNOOSA, and her delegation visited Hangzhou International Campus of Beihang University, investigated the construction and development of Hangzhou platform of the Centre, and attended the first Industry-Education Integration Forum. More than seventy (70) participants attended the forum, including Mr. Zhao Weisheng, Vice President of Beihang University and Director of the Centre, Mr. Marco Antonio Chamon, President of Brazilian Space Agency (AEB), Ms. Erna Sri Adiningsih, Executive Director of Secretariat of Indonesian Space Agency (INASA), other Members of the Governing Board (GB) and representatives of Members States of the Centre, Mr. Weng Jingnong, Director of International Relations Department and Executive Director of the Centre, Ms. Hong Guanxin, Director of Hangzhou Innovation Institute of Beihang University, Mr. Jing Guifei, Deputy Director of the Centre and Head of Hangzhou platform, heads of related units and departments, representatives of cooperative enterprises, and representatives of teachers and participants of the Centre, and so on. Mr. Weng Jingnong presided over the meeting.
At the meeting, Ms. Hong Guanxin extended a warm welcome to Ms. Aarti Holla-Maini and her delegation, introduced overall status of Beihang Hangzhou International Campus in detail and delivered a speech to welcome the guests. Hong said that Hangzhou platform of the Centre was officially inaugurated in January of 2024, within just a few months, it has grown rapidly and built up remarkable achievements. In the future, the Hangzhou Innovation Institute would fully support high-quality development of the Centre in Hangzhou, actively promote international education cooperation, strongly facilitate international scientific and technological cooperation and comprehensively enhance the international exchange of talents.
Mr. Jing Guifei delivered a report on the development plan of the Centre to the attended guests and introduced the status of construction and development of the Centre in Hangzhou in detail.
At the meeting, Mr. Zhao Weisheng issued the Letters of Appointment for Mr. Jing Guifei, Mr. Sun Gongling, Chief Scientist and Chief Professor of the Centre in Space Project Management, Ms. Tan Yumin, Deputy Director of the Centre and Responsible Professor in Remote Sensing and GIS, Mr. Huang Hai, Responsible Professor in Micro-satellite Technology, and Mr. Yang Dongkai, Responsible Professor in Global Navigation Satellite Systems.
On behalf of the Hangzhou platform of the Centre, Mr. Jing Guifei exchanged the strategic cooperation agreements on the construction of industry-education integration laboratory and practice base for innovative talents with five cooperative enterprises, including the Association of Science & Technology Professionals of Deqing Geospatial Information Town, Shanghai Huace Navigation Technology Co., Ltd., COSATSPACE Co., Ltd., Beijing MinoSpace Technology Co., Ltd., and Beijing Beidouin Technology Co., Ltd.
Ms. Aarti Holla-Main and Ms. Hong Guanxin signed on the first prize winning works of Poster Design Contest for China Space Day.
Ms. Aarti Holla-Main said that to utilize the outer space for peaceful purposes was the common mission for the sustainable development of mankind. With the strong support of Beihang University, the Centre had made a great contribution for talents and technological training in space technology applications field over the past ten (10) years, which had vigorously backed up the needs of developing countries for talents in space technology applications. She emphasized that the Alliance of Regional Centres (ARC) led by the Centre was of great significance, and the Centre would surely play a greater role with the rapid development of China’s aerospace industry.
Mr. Zhao Weisheng expressed his heartfelt thanks to UNOOSA for its continuous support in his concluding speech. He pointed out that a consensus was reached on the future development path of the Centre at the just-concluded 6th GB Meeting, and Beihang University, as a supporting organization, would continuously support the development of the Centre. He said that the spirit of the resolutions adopted by the GB would be fully implemented, and full backing would be given to building the innovative capacity of the Centre in the field of education and training in international space technology applications, increasing the promotion, cooperation and interaction in such important areas as talents training, industry-education integration, space economy, so as to facilitate interactive cooperation to better contribute to the enhancement of space utilization capability of UN Member States and the great cause of peaceful use of the outer space.
Before the meeting, Ms. Aarti Holla-Main and her delegation visited Hangzhou International Campus of Beihang University and got a comprehensive understanding of the status of Hangzhou Innovation Institute in its talents cultivation, scientific and technological innovation, international cooperation and comprehensive administration of campus.
