To welcome the New Year, enrich campus cultural life, and promote cultural exchange between international and Chinese students, the Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in Asia and the Pacific (China) (Affiliated to the United Nations), held a New Year Gala on December 31. Students from different countries and regions gathered to celebrate the arrival of the New Year 2026 through a variety of performances and interactive activities.

The gala opened with an energetic dance performed by Mimi, Maryline, and Esther. Their dynamic rhythm and expressive movements quickly energized the audience and showcased the youthful spirit of the students.
Following the performance, Prof. Yang Dongkai delivered a brief address. He explained the cultural significance and traditional uses of Chinese paper-cuttings, especially as window decorations, and their symbolism during the Spring Festival, helping international students gain a clearer understanding of this festive tradition.
Next, Prof. Jing Guifei introduced Qufu, the hometown of Confucius, and highlighted the importance of teachers and education in traditional Chinese culture. He elaborated on the vital role teachers play in knowledge transmission, value guidance, and student development, offering both Chinese and international students a deeper insight into China's educational heritage.
The program continued with musical performances. Glory presented the original English song “Star”, conveying warm wishes for the new year. Esther then performed “I’m With You” in a warm and moving voice, earning enthusiastic applause from the audience.
In addition to the performances, the gala featured interactive games. Chinese and international students actively participated, sharing laughter and building closer connections in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
During the cultural showcase segment, international students from six countries across three continents took turns introducing their homelands and cultural highlights, demonstrating the rich diversity of the Centre’s student community.
The gala concluded with the festive Chinese song “Bai Xin Nian” (“拜新年”) performed by Aline. The cheerful melody brought the evening to a joyful close and conveyed best wishes for the coming year.

With its rich and diverse program, the New Year Gala not only provided a platform for students to showcase their talents but also served as a bridge for cultural communication. The Regional Centre will continue to promote an international campus culture and foster a more open, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all students.
