Dr. Sergio Camacho
Dr. Sergio Camacho is a former Director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (OOSA), a post that he held from 2002 to 2007. He has worked in space-related capacity building, the organization of the Third United Nations Conference on the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNISPACE III) and in implementing the recommendations of UNISPACE III. Highlights of the implementation of those recommendations which he supported have been, the establishment of the Space Generation Advisory Council (2002), the establishment of the International Committee on GNSS (2005), the establishment in 2006 of the “United Nations Platform for Space-based Information for Disaster Management and Emergency Response (UN-SPIDER)” and in 2014, as a delegate of Mexico to COPUOS, the establishment of the International Asteroid Warning Network (IAWN) and the Space Mission Planning Advisory Group (SMPAG). He was appointed as Visiting Professor by Law School of Beihang University in 2016.
