The China Center for Aerospace Science and Technology; CCASTIC, IAA and China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC), CSN, CNSA, CASC held an international symposium from Friday 25th to Saturday 26th November, 2016 on international space cooperation in promoting economic social development of developing countries to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Chinese Space Industry. The anniversary shows that today's top-level activities are built on a long standing and proud tradition.
The symposium had in attendance International Scholars, Head of so many developing countries Space Agencies, educators and researchers on Space Science and Technology, Space Law and Policy such as Prof. Hiroki MATSUO, Prof. BAO Weimin, Prof Seidu Onailo MOHAMMED, Prof. HU Zhaobin to mention but a few. Professor WENG Jingnong, Deputy Director of RCSSTEAP, Dean of International School, Beihang University, Ms GUO Yuanyuan, Ms CUI Yizhuo and all DOSTA and MASTA students from RCSSTEAP were in attendance. The students went with very high expectations and came back satisfied as the Symposium surpassed the expectations of all. Many topics arising from the Space Science and Technology of Developing Countries, Space Cooperation among Developing Countries, Development Programs and Policy of China's Space Activities were discussed. It was quite educative, informative and revealing for the participants from RCSSTEAP.
The series of presentations given by about nine (9) Heads and Chairmen of Space Agencies of centered on so much information such as experience of the years on Space Science and Technology of Developing countries, Benefits and Perspectives of Space Cooperation, Space Activities for Socio-Economic Development and International Cooperation On Space Technologies Applications for Socio- Economic Uplift of the Developing Countries. One of the presentations showcased the achievements of China in Space over the past 60 years. China has made remarkable strides with regards to its indigenous space program bringing significant benefits to its own population as well as to those of many other developing countries.
The most interesting and more interactive part of the symposium was during the technical and Space Policy, Law and International Cooperation sessions where relevant aspects of international space cooperation, Plant Space Mutation and Application in Space Breeding, Global Precipitation Observation from Space, Space Mineral Mining Activities for the Benefits of Developing Countries, Small Satellites Constellations and Developing Countries, Practice and Reflection on the Development of Space Science and Technology Talents in Developing Countries were discussed. Mr. WENG Jingnong, Deputy Director of RCSSTEAP, gave a report on Practice and Reflection on the Development of Space Technology Talents in Developing Countries. The participants were given ample opportunities to ask questions bothering their mind and also to give their reflections on the topics discussed at the sessions.
The symposium came to its climax on the first day when panelist drawn from Heads of Space Agencies of Developing Countries represented discussed salient issues on Ways and Means to Further Promote International Space Cooperation for the Benefits of Developing Countries. They all agreed that international cooperation is important and should be improved on by all developing countries for their economic and social development.
The two days symposium ended on Saturday 26th November, 2016 with a visit by the participants to the International Seed Industry Science Technology Park where a video was shown to participants on how China developed a new technology to improve crop productions. The participants also visited Beijing Shenzhou Lvpeng Agricultural Science and Technology Co., Ltd. where they were shown the technology of breeding vegetables from Outer Space.
The symposium was indeed a great platform for Heads of Space Agencies, University professors, Captains of industries, researchers, educators and students to learn , interact and network. DOCSTA and MASTA students of RCSSTEAP in attendance were grateful for this massive opportunity to learn and interact with authorities and colleagues in the Space Industry.
